We have a winner!
Congratulations to Joan Stock, a 5th grade special education teaching assistant from Dryden, N.Y. She was selected from more than 100 entries to win a free Winter Recess mini vacation in Ithaca, courtesy of Satori Spa, the Courtyard by Marriott Ithaca, and Fine Line Bistro.
It was a daunting task to choose a single winner from the long list of worthy nominees. Reading the entries, our prize committee was reminded just how lucky we are to have individuals of such character, commitment and compassion working in our communities every day. But in the end, we could choose only one. Ms. Stock's commitment to her students was matched by her commitment to her colleagues, and for that we honor her. She is a perfect example of all teachers who make a positive impact on the lives of those around them. As her nominator noted:
"We work with a diverse group of students, whose needs and challenges change with each passing day. Joan is a beacon of consistency, strength and support to our students and staff. She comes to school early and stays late each day helping to plan, modify, and extend our lessons and activities. Joan works tirelessly to make sure that our students are treated fairly, honestly, and with open hearts. Joan goes above and beyond her daily duties, not only as an advocate for our students; but as a voice for other Teaching Assistants and special educators! She is rarely recognized, appreciated, or acknowledged for her dedication, talents, and passion. Joan deserves an enormous 'thank you' from all of us here at Dryden! A winter recess vacation would give her the pampering she needs to keep inspiring us all!"
Congratulations to Joan Stock and all the teachers who were nominated. You are all winners in our book! On behalf of Satori Day Spa, Salon & Store, The Courtyard by Marriott Ithaca, Fine Line Bistro and the entire city of Ithaca, thank you. You are the reason we created this festival of appreciation.
